• President Ruto said the project, modelled on the existing JKIA-Westlands Expressway, will provide a lasting solution to chronic traffic congestion along Thika Road, particularly the stretch after Githurai through to Museum Hill. He indicated that construction will commence once the ongoing JKIA-Westlands road expansion is completed. KeNHA has already issued notices for roadside traders along Thika Superhighway to vacate within seven days to facilitate upcoming highway upgrades.

• The Sh31.5 billion complex, spanning over 323,500 square metres, is designed to replace the 50-year-old Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) as Kenya’s premier venue for high-level conferences and international events. The facility is already slated to host the Africa-France Summit on 12 May 2026. Ruto said the project is part of a broader strategy to position Kenya as a leading destination for conference tourism in East and Central Africa.
• The construction of the Bomas of Kenya International Conference Centre (BICC) missed the May 2026 deadline and is now expected to be completed by September 2026. The Senate Committee on Roads, Transportation, and Infrastructure was informed of the new timeline during an inspection visit at the facility on Thursday, April 30 2026. Resutantly, the summit had to be  relocated, with construction at Bomas expected to continue without added pressure.

• President William Ruto launched the Rironi–Mau Summit dual carriageway project on November 28, 2025 at Kamandura, Kiambu County. The full corridor covers ~233 km (Rironi to Mau Summit + Naivasha spur), built under a public-private partnership with Chinese-led consortia (CRBC & Shandong Hi-Speed) and financed 75% debt / 25% equity, with NSSF as a key equity partner under a 28-year toll concession. He  specifically pledged that the Rironi/Kamandura-to-Gilgil stretch would be done within 6 months of launch.
• Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir on Saturday 10th January, 2026 inspected ongoing construction works on the Rironi–Mau Summit Highway, expressing satisfaction with the pace and quality of work on one of Kenya’s most important regional transport corridors
• In February 2024, The Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) announced road closures along the Nairobi- Rironi Road from February 20 to April 4 to pave the way for construction works taking place under the expansive Rironi-Mau Summit super highway.
• In March 2026, the Ministry of Transport revealed that the contractors of the Rironi-Mau Summit and James Gichuru-Rironi highway projects have already opened several sections of the corridor for initial works.

• The draft MSME Policy has been published, which provides for the establishment of a single-window portal for the licenses/approvals/registration of MSMEs.

• The government has introduced several tax-based measures to lower costs for mass transit operators ; Zero-rating of Value Added Tax (VAT) on electric buses, electric motorcycles, and lithium-ion batteries,Excise duty has been reduced to zero percent on electric motorcycles and bicycles,A reduced corporate tax rate of 15%
• The government has also  implemented measures to make running electric mass transit more viable than diesel alternatives: 
  •  Kenya Power offers a 70% discount for off-peak charging (KSh 8 per kWh) compared to peak rates (KSh 16 per kWh) and regular domestic rates (~KSh 20 per kWh).
  • The new policy requires that at least 5% of parking space in new commercial developments be allocated for EV charging.
  • Launched in February 2026 to help differentiate EVs, which will eventually grant them preferential treatment in traffic and parking

• AMACO, a Greek company created a project page for a Mombasa LNG to Power and NG Transmission System Development proposing the construction of an LNG storage facility at Mombasa Port.
• The government has reported that it is preparing to assess the commercial viability of the development of an LNG fired power plant at Dongo Kundu, Mombasa and recently invited proposals for transaction advisory services related to the proposed project. The government has taken steps towards the construction and commissioning of a bulk LPG storage facility in Mombasa, with some reports in January 2026 indicating that the project is 80% complete.

• As of May 2025, Turkana County has begun installing sensors (divers) in some boreholes tapping aquifers in Lodwar (Napuu, Nakwamewi, Moi Gardens, and Nadapal) for continuous measurement of groundwater levels, temperature, water quality, etc., to inform long‐term management.
• In Lamu, Rasli Bahari Kenya Ltd is set to construct a PPP desalination plant valued at KES 103.3 billion (roughly), with a 30:70 equity-to-debt ratio.  The project is under a 30-year build-operate- transfer (BOT) model and aims to deliver 120,000 cubic meters of potable water per day to serve Lamu Town.
• The Lamu County government, with ENI/Agip, established a smaller-scale solar desalination plant (KES 20 million) in Siyu Village (Lamu East), now operational for subsistence water needs.
• Despite the announcement of the Lamu PPP desalination plant (RBKL, KES 103.3 billion), no source confirms that the project has reached financial close (i.e., legally binding financing contracts in place, all risk allocations agreed, etc.).
• The Sabaki Water Carrier (Baricho aquifer abstraction, treatment, storage, network, etc.) was cleared by the PPP Directorate in February 2025 to move into contract negotiations with Utility Partners One LLP.
• The Lotikipi aquifer water in Turkana is highly saline and fluoridated, meaning treatment (desalination, fluoride removal) is expensive.
• Projects often take longer than planned (due to material supply delays, budget revisions, and procurement delays).
• As at May 2026, the PPP Directorate’s website does not feature any project related to the development of aquifers.
