New Bomas conference facility to be ready by May 2026

On 23 February 2026, President William Ruto announced at the Magical Kenya Open at the Karen Country Club that a new state-of-the-art conference facility, the Bomas International Convention Complex (BICC) , is under construction at the Bomas of Kenya and will be ready by May 2026.

  • The Sh31.5 billion complex, spanning over 323,500 square metres, is designed to replace the 50-year-old Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) as Kenya’s premier venue for high-level conferences and international events. The facility is already slated to host the Africa-France Summit on 12 May 2026. Ruto said the project is part of a broader strategy to position Kenya as a leading destination for conference tourism in East and Central Africa.
  • The construction of the Bomas of Kenya International Conference Centre (BICC) missed the May 2026 deadline and is now expected to be completed by September 2026. The Senate Committee on Roads, Transportation, and Infrastructure was informed of the new timeline during an inspection visit at the facility on Thursday, April 30 2026. Resutantly, the summit had to be  relocated, with construction at Bomas expected to continue without added pressure.
