The Kenya Kwanza Government promised to free sanitary towels in all schools and public washrooms easily accessible to economically disadvantaged women.
In October 2023: The government allocated Ksh. 940 million for the provision of sanitary pads in public schools, but came under fire as the sanitary towels had not been provided four months into the financial year.
In 2025, however, the Auditor general acknowledged that the Ministry of Education had made efforts to provide the sanitary towels, though they remained insufficient.
