Establish new trade and investment channels

The Kenya Kwanza Government promised to engage Kenyans living in the diaspora in a bid to unlock the full potential of Kenyans living overseas. They also promised to will facilitate their investment locally and include them in the development and execution of policy as the Kenyans living in the diaspora generate most of the Country’s foreign revenue ($3.7 billion in 2021).

  • In January 2023, the President, vide Executive Order Number 1 of 2023, established the State Department for Diaspora Affairs with a mandate to, among other matters, mainstreaming the Kenyan Diaspora into the national development process.
  • In 2024, the Kenya Kwanza Government launched the Kenya Diaspora Policy, 2024 which aims to, among other matters, promote local investment by the Kenyan Diaspora by creating an enabling environment for diaspora engagements through implementing programmes and incentives that encourage investments, technology transfer, reduced cost of remittances, and mitigate investment risks.
  • In August 2025, the government announced plans to launch a Diaspora Bond, by which it seeks to raise up to USD. 500 Million.
