The Kenya Kwanza government promised to leverage public procurement to build capability (uniformed services, school shoes). Build leather industry clusters (Athi River, Narok, Isiolo, Wajir) and secure linkages with technical support from overseas markets (Italy).
The Ewaso Ng’iro Tannery and Leather Factory in Narok has been commissioned. It processes hides and skins locally, is equipped with infrastructure including an effluent treatment plant, staff, and machines, and produces finished leather.
The Kenanie Leather Industrial Park (in Machakos County/Athi River region) is nearing operationalization, with infrastructure largely in place (roads, utilities, effluent treatment, ready warehouses, etc.).
