Engage sportsmen and women to promote patriotism and social cohesion

The Kenya Kwanza government promised to engage sportsmen and women in a bid to promote patriotism and social cohesion.

  • Progress includes the creation of a public-private committee to elevate the sports sector and attract investment.
  • Additionally, in October 2025, President William Ruto announced the recruitment of 500 athletes into the disciplined forces to provide career stability and access to better training, and increased monetary rewards were paid to athletes who performed well in the 2025 World Athletics Championships.
  • However, this progress is hampered by a significant KSh3 billion cut to the Sports, Arts, and Social Development Fund in the 2025/2026 budget, which raises concerns about potential delays in talent development and infrastructure projects.
  • Challenges also persist with issues of poor governance, and concerns over the transparency and management of funds threaten to undermine positive advancements in the sector.
