Connecting all schools to the internet for improved learning outcomes

The Kenya Kwanza government promised to improve learning outcomes by pledging to connect all schools to the Internet, starting with primary schools, and increase investments in teacher retraining.

  • While showing tangible progress through policy development, partnerships with entities like UNICEF and Huawei, specific teacher retraining programs, and targeted infrastructure projects in some areas, significant challenges persist. Persistent issues include a digital divide that leaves many schools disconnected or with unreliable service, uneven implementation of training and digital resources, and a lack of coordination and consistent funding across different sectors. Furthermore, regional inequalities and sustainability concerns over long-term investment continue to impede the full realization of these educational and developmental goals.
