Expansion of the space for creativity

The Kenya Kwanza government promised to expand the creative economy as a pivotal component of its Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

  • Its progress has been marked by notable advancements in policy formulation and legislative efforts, strategic partnerships with global players like TikTok, and targeted support for film and content creators.
  • However, significant challenges persist, including persistent barriers for creatives in accessing affordable finance, inadequate physical infrastructure and expensive equipment, gaps in policy implementation and regulatory harmonization, and fragmented support systems. The sustainability of investment and the need to address the systemic challenges inhibiting the full monetization of creative assets are critical hurdles that continue to impede the sector’s full potential.
