Nov 28 2023: Kenya’s High Court declared unconstitutional a 1.5% levy intended to fund affordable housing that was imposed as part of a finance law adopted in June. This stalled the plans for the Jua Kali industry plans to produce high quality construction productions.
January 5 2024: President Ruto has vowed to ignore court orders stopping his flagship projects, saying the cases are sponsored by cartels out to derail his government agenda. The Jua Kali Association banner led by Joseph Muhia pledged their support to the president.
