Reduce Dependence on Basic Food Imports

The Kenya Kwanza government promised to reduce dependence on basic food imports by 30 per cent (domestic oil crops production from 5 per cent to 25 percent, rice from 18 per cent to 40 per cent).

• There have been significant efforts to increase edible oil production in Kenya, with an 8.3% increase recorded so far.
• The Kenya Kwanza government has also made efforts to boost rice production, but discussions are still at the preliminary stages.
