Countrywide Universal Broadband Availability

Universal broadband availability throughout the country within five years. We shall increase and fast-track broadband connectivity across the country by construction of 100,000km of national fibre optic connectivity network.

  • Significant progress has been made, with over 13,000 km of the network already laid and the government has partnered with the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) to utilize its transmission lines to expedite the network rollout.
  • Despite progress, a significant digital divide persists, with urban areas enjoying greater connectivity and affordability than rural areas.
  • Issues like vandalism, high costs, technical challenges, and siloed government-county collaboration continue to hamper the rollout and sustainability of the network.
  • A September 2025 report indicated that Kenya’s internet demand is growing faster than capacity, increasing the risk of outages and potentially slowing progress towards universal access.
