Bolstering financial and technical capabilities of independent institutions

The Kenya Kwanza Government promised to bolster the financial and technical capabilities as well as the independence of all independent (Chapter 15) institutions to make sure they are capable of defending the national interest and the people’s sovereignty.

• There have been attempts to interfere with the independence and duties of the Auditor General’s office through the Public Audit (Amendment) Bill 2024, which seeks to remove the Auditor-General as the head of the national audit office.
• Similar attempts to interfere with the office of the Controller of budget have also been reported.
