Make it possible to pay Kshs 300 and still keep your NHIF cover.
The proposed NHIF rates announced by the President, are a flat rate of 2.75% of the gross salary. The maximum cap of Ksh. 1,700 for those earning Ksh. 100,000 or above has been scrapped off. Those in the informal sector, self-employed, retirees and voluntary individuals pay the fixed NHIF rate of Ksh. 300 per month or Ksh. 3,600 per year. Therefore, while the rate for some of the low income earners has reduced, middle and high income earners will pay more.
