Clean cooking technologies

The Kenya Kwanza manifesto included a promise to support the scaling up of clean cooking technologies.

  • Kenya has adopted the Kenya National Cooking Transition Strategy (KNCTS 2024-2028), intending to achieve universal access to clean cooking by 2028.
  • Clean cooking manufacturers (for example, BURN) have secured investment (around US$5 million) from ElectriFI to scale deployment of induction cookers to over 100,000 households.
  • Despite these advances, dependence on traditional biomass (firewood, charcoal) remaines high and financing gap persist.

Countrywide Universal Broadband Availability

The Government intends to increase internet broadband connectivity across the country through the construction of 100,000 kilometers of national fiber optic connectivity network.

  • Kenya’s goal to digitize 80% of of government services through its digital masterplan faces challenges such as lack of coordinated implementation across ministries, system integration issues, resistance from county governments, resource and capacity limitations, and governance and security risks.

  • The promise of eradicating malnutrition is not on track to be met as it continues to be a critical concern, especially in arid and semi-arid lands, which face food insecurity and other challenges.

Export Cash Crops

Revamp underperforming and collapsed export crops while expanding emerging ones (coffee, cashew nuts, pyrethrum, avocado, macadamia nuts).

 

 

  • In 2025, coffee export earnings increased with expanded direct sales to diverse markets and high international prices, though auction volume fell.
  • Regulations under the Crops Act 2013 mandate registration and licensing for dealers and processors of cashew nuts to ensure quality and prevention of illegal activities. 
  •  The government aims to revive the pyrethrum industry through key environmental and policy shifts. The implemented policy changes an actions include; a ban on harzadous pesticide products which reduces the competition for natural pyrethrum and legal reforms such as the Business Laws (Ammendment) Act 2024, which empowers regulators to ban the importation of chemicals that are prohibited in their countries of origin. 
  • As of 2025, Kenya’s Agricultural and Food Authority has lifted the suspension on Fuerte and Pinkerton avocado harvesting and export.

Kenya Kwanza promised to establish 5 million acres (20,000 km2) of agroforestry woodlots in drylands.
