Raising productivity of key value food chains

The Kenya Kwanza government promised to raise productivity of key food value chains (maize 8 -15bags/acre, dairy 2.5kg7.5kg per cow/day, beef carcass weight from 110kg – 150kg)

 

 

 

 

  • Overall maize production has steadily increased from 3,082,220 Tons in 2022 to 4,285,206 and 4,028,320 in 2023 and 2024 respectively. The yield in bags per acre has also increased from 6.5 acres in 2022 to 7.52 bags in 2024, with a peak of 7.93 bags in 2023, but has remained below the targeted 8-15 bags per acre.
  • Overall milk production has also increased from 4,604 million kilograms in 2022 to 5,334.8 million kilograms in 2024, with the production per litre per cow per day ranging between 7 – 15 litres.
  • As at May 2026, there is no publicly available government data on the average beef carcass weight.
