Reduce Dependence on Basic Food Imports

The Kenya Kwanza government promised to reduce dependence on basic food imports by 30 per cent (domestic oil crops production from 5 per cent to 25 percent, rice from 18 per cent to 40 per cent).

There have been significant efforts to increase edible oil production in Kenya, with an 8.3% increase recorded so far.
The Kenya Kwanza government has also made efforts to boost rice production, but discussions are still at the preliminary stages.
Staple food imports dip by 22pc on improved local output.
