Increase in lending to MSMEs

The President of Kenya, giving a speech at the World MSME Day celebrations in June 2026, urged banks to increase lending to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to enable them to take up a more pivotal role in Kenya’s development.

 

 

 

 

  • During the first half of 2026, Kenya’s banking industry disbursed KSh 245.1 billion in new loans to MSMEs, but as of August 2026, public documentation outlining the increase in lending in the second half of 2026.
