In August 2026, President Ruto promised to build a smart city in Bungoma and for it to be redesigned to have 24 floors in the complex instead of 14 floors. The development would include residential, commercial, medical, and learning facilities.
Earlier, in March 2026, the president had commissioned KSh 34 billion to be used in various development projects in the region, including the Smart City project, but there has been no public record indicating that the project is underway.
