In August 2026, President Ruto informed residents of Uasin Gishu County of the government’s plan to construct 600 modern markets nationally to provide traders and small-scale businesses with safe and dignified spaces to do their business in.
The government has begun construction across various counties, with some of the markets having already been completed, including markets in Chuka and Gatunga. However, the target of constructing 600 markets has not yet been fully achieved.
