The Kenya Kwanza Government promised that it would establish Africa Regional Hub and promote the development of software for export.
The government has taken steps towards its promise, most notably through advancements at the Konza Technopolis and various digital infrastructure projects. However, a specific completion timeline has not been announced.
As of March 2026, the Kenya Kwanza administration has transitioned its manifesto promise of an “Africa Regional Hub” into an active operational phase branded as the “Code Nation” initiative. This strategy aims to shift Kenya from a technology consumer to a global exporter of software and digital talent.
Code Nation Plan was Launched in late 2025, this plan specifically targets the export of software solutions and AI-driven products. It is supported by the Skill-Up Kenya program, which aims to produce a globally competitive workforce of developers.
Major tech entities like Microsoft (African Development Centre), Google (Product Development Centre), and Visa (Innovation Studio) have fully established Nairobi as their regional base for software engineering and R&D, directly contributing to the “export” of Kenyan-developed code to their global platforms.
