Clean cooking technologies

The Kenya Kwanza government promised to support the scaling up of clean cooking technologies.

  • Kenya has adopted the Kenya National Cooking Transition Strategy (KNCTS 2024-2028), intending to achieve universal access to clean cooking by 2028.
  • Clean cooking manufacturers (for example, BURN) have secured investment (around US$5 million) from ElectriFI to scale deployment of induction cookers to over 100,000 households.
  • Kenya co-hosted the 2026 Clean Cooking Summit in Nairobi in July 2026 alongside Norway, the U.S., and the International Energy Agency to mobilize further international investment.
  • The country has also secured funding to be applied towards the scale-up of clean cooking technologies.
  • Despite these advances, dependence on traditional biomass (firewood, charcoal) remains high and financing gap persists.
