Review of remuneration and terms of service for all officers in the security sector

The Kenya Kwanza government promised to commission a review of remuneration and terms of service for all officers in the security sector to be commensurate with the cost of living.

  • On 21st December 2022, a task force was established, led by the Chief Justice Emeritus, David Maraga, to oversee reforms at the National Police Service and the Kenya Prisons Service and made recommendations; among them, a 40% salary increase, which the government committed to implement in three phases.
  • On 5th September 2024, the National Police Service Commission chairperson Eliud Kinuthia announced salary increments with the basic salary for Police Constables at the entry level being risen by Ksh 4,000, from Ksh 21,645 to Ksh 25,645. The commission also promoted 1,957 police constables between the ages of 53 and 59, who have held the same rank for over 30 years.
