Benevolent fund for the families of fallen and terminally ill officers

The Kenya Kwanza government promised to establish a contributory Benevolent Fund for families of fallen and terminally ill officers, including those with mental health illnesses.

  • On December 15th, 2022, and further on 14, 2023, the then Interior Cabinet Secretary Kindiki directed the relevant Ministry departments to urgently convene a core team to draw the framework for establishing and administering the Fund.
  • On 15th October 2025, President Ruto signed into law the National Police Service Commission (Amendment) Act, 2025 which introduces new functions empowering the Commission to determine remuneration and benefits (with SRC advice), manage promotions and transfers, regulate officers’ engagement in trade or business, and establish psychosocial support programs.
