Benchmark on competing film destination

  • The Kenya Kwanza government promised to pass a creative economy bill that will enable the establishment of a film fund. Part of the mandate of the fund will be to facilitate access to modern equipment and the entire film production infrastructure available for local filmmakers on a hire and lease basis.

 

 

August 6th 2024: The Creative Economy Support Bill (Senate Bills No. 30 Of 2024) was read a first time in the Senate on 6th August 2024 and is awaiting second reading. The Bill seeks to establish mechanisms for the support of the persons in the creative industry; to enhance the contribution of creative industry to the economy; to establish the Creative’s fund; and for connected purposes. The Bill has undergone public participation pending second reading and subsequent stages before assent.
