On 16th May 2023, the President of Kenya promised to revive the country’s textile industry by scaling up cotton production.
In 2025, the government through the State department of Industry in collaboration with Crop Development, distributed 8.5 tons of biotech (Bt) and Open-Pollinated Variety (OPV) seeds to farmers to farmers across the country to boost productivity. The government has also since developed the National Cotton Textile and Apparel Policy, though it is yet to be approved.
