Kenyans to transact with biometrics

On 30th October 2023, the President of Kenya promised Kenyans that they would transact using their Iris & Fingerprints.

In December 2023, the court announced the suspension of the registration of individuals and the issuance of new-generation IDs.
While the rollout wasn’t achieved in the set target time, the court later rescinded the order on the suspension of the issuance of the digital identification cards (Maisha Namba). This paves the way for the integration of the Maisha Namba into services such as birth registration and national population records.
