Through its program, “Iko Kazi Majuu,” the government on 17th September 2025, announced 9000 job opportunities in Middle East, including Saudi Arabia.
Further, on 28th October 2025, the Labour CS, Dr Alfred Mutua, announced that the government in conjunction with credible job recruitment agencies, was seeking to recruit 1500 Kenyans in Saudi Arabia.
However, a lot of concerns have been raised on the Kazi Majuu program, including labour trafficking complaints, recruitment agencies scamming Kenyans, and financial burdens on young people occasioned by loans taken to apply for the opportunities, unsuccessfully.
On 16th November 2025, the Kenyan Embassy in Riyadh announced that , effective February 2026, the Government of Saudi Arabia will implement a minimum salary of SAR 1,000 per month for all workers which is an equivalent of approximately Ksh34,455 per moth for Kenyan workers. However, there was no specific implementation plan, Kenyan workers were to verify with their employers regarding the implementation of the new minimum wage and to report any concerns through the Embassy’s official channels.
