Increasing NYS officers’ salaries

On 8th December 2023, the President of Kenya promised to increase the National Youth Service salaries by 40% for the next three years.

In August 2024, PS Raymond Omollo announced that the National Youth Service Officers would get a pay rise from September 2024. This was part of the implementation of the former Chief Justice David Maraga Reform Taskforce recommendations.
On 4th March 2026, the Interior Ministry confirmed that the final phase of salary increases for all Police and prison officers, as well as NYS personnel, will be implemented this July, with the aim of improving welfare, terms of service, and staff development.
In July 2026, the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), following President William Ruto’s directive to increase civil servants’ salaries, approved a revised salary structure and allowances under the Fourth Remuneration Review Cycle that will take effect from July 1 for the 2026/2027 financial year. It is not yet documented that the National Youth Service officers received the 40% increment.
