Increasing diaspora remittances to strengthen Kenyan shilling.
On 10th December, 2023, the president of Kenya promised that the exchange rate against the dollar would improve as those leaving the country would send back dollars, which would in turn ensure that the exchange rate stabilises.
The Kenyan shilling has remained significantly stable against the dollar. As of 3rd March 2026, it stood at 129 against the dollar. The CBK Governor Kamau Thugge said the stability his being seen because of diversified foreign exchange inflows.
However, concerns have been raised over how static this stability has been, including by institutions such as IMF, terming it as “too stable.”
