Strengthening Jua Kali capacity to produce high quality construction productions

The Kenya Kwanza government promised to strengthen Jua Kali industry capacity to produce high-quality construction productions.

In August 2023 Jua Kali Artisans signed a contract with the government worth Sh 125 million for construction of affordable houses in Thika Town.
In 2025, Jua Kali artisans in Kitengela are also to enter construction contracts with the government for supply of materials like steel doors and windows for the Boma Yangu Kitengela Veterinary Estate, amounting to upto KES 100,000,000 for the involved suppliers.
In April 2025, Eight Jua Kali groups won a government-backed tender to supply metal doors and windows for the Affordable Housing Programme. They received KSh10 million for work completed. The report says the State Department for Housing had ring-fenced doors and windows for local Jua Kali associations.
Moreover, the government has established the Kenya Jobs and Economic Transformation (KJET) programme specifically identifies building and construction materials as a priority value chain. It provides MSMEs with business-skills training, market access and finance support. In August 2026, MSEA was actively sensitising the Kenya National Federation of Jua Kali Associations on KJET and inviting applications from eligible enterprises.
