Portability of knowledge, skills, innovation & technical resources available in the Diaspora
The Kenya Kwanza government promised to facilitate the portability of knowledge, skills, innovation, and technical resources available in the diaspora for national development.
The President on August 3rd 2023 awarded a charter to the Open University of Kenya, the first virtual public university in the country. The University, he said, offers a chance for ordinary Kenyans to pursue professional training of their choice wherever they are.
The State Department for Labour and Skills Development in partnership with various organizations, has also developed the Kenya Skills Hub where youth can access information and skills to develop their employability. The hub provides 310 skills and employability resources.
May 2026: The President affirmed that Kenya is reforming the education system to ensure that learners keep pace with a fast-changing global labour market, especially in technology. He said the government has laid 30,000km of fibre optic cable to expand digital infrastructure and create opportunities for innovators, creators, and enterprises. “Investing in this infrastructure will position Kenya as a hub for innovation,” he said. “We want to attract everybody to Kenya by building a comprehensive tech ecosystem.”
