The Kenya Kwanza government pledged to implement the two-thirds gender rule in elective and appointive positions in the public sector within 12 months after the elections, including 50 per cent of cabinet positions for women.
As of 25 August, the Kenya Kwanza cabinet consists 22 appointed cabinet secretaries, with 6 members being women. This accounts for 27%, which is far below the 50 % target and below the constitutional requirement.
In June 2026, the High Court ordered that the President reconstitutes Parliament in 120 days owing to the unconstitutionality of the current composition of the cabinet.
