Implementation of the two-third gender rule

The Kenya Kwanza government pledged to implement the two-thirds gender rule in elective and appointive positions in the public sector within 12 months after the elections, including 50 per cent of cabinet positions for women.

  • On the 22nd September 2022, the President selected a cabinet that consisted of 7 women out of 22.
  • Currently women hold only 8 out of 26 cabinet seats — about 30.8 %, far below the 50 % target and below the constitutional requirement.
