Implementation of the two-third gender rule

The Kenya Kwanza government pledged to implement the two-thirds gender rule in elective and appointive positions in the public sector within 12 months after the elections, including 50 per cent of cabinet positions for women.

On the 22nd September 2022, the President selected a cabinet that consisted of 7 women out of 22.
Currently women hold only 8 out of 26 cabinet seats — about 30.8 %, far below the 50 % target and below the constitutional requirement.
