Establishment of a Social Welfare System for Kenyans living in the diaspora

The Kenya Kwanza government promised to establish a social welfare system for Kenyans living in the diaspora by exploring and implementing the portability of social protection.

• The State Department for Diaspora Affairs’ core functions have been expanded through Executive Order No. 1 of 2025 to include protecting the rights and welfare of Kenyans overseas, offering 24/7 consular support, medical evacuation, psychosocial services, and direct outreach through Mobile Consular Services.
