On 23rd July 2023, the President announced a plan promising that by the end of 2024, Kenya will have produced 200,000 electric boda-bodas, with subsidising production taking centre stage.

In February 2026, it was reported that Spiro had secured $50 million in credit funding to scale its electric motorcycles and battery-swapping network across Africa, with Kenya set to be among the beneficiaries. There has also been reported growth and expansion in the sector. However, numerous concerns have been reported with allegations of unfair ownership terms, among others
