Ending all forms of extra-judicial executions

The Kenya Kwanza government promised to end all forms of extra-judicial executions by security services, and amend the National Coroners Service Act of 2017 to establish the Coroner-General’s Office.

The President disbanded the Directorate of Criminal Investigation’s SSU unit that was linked to enforced disappearances, but the Act has not yet been amended. There are still extrajudicial executions that continue to be reported, years after the promise was made. The government continues to be bedevilled by allegations of extrajudicial killings, with a reported rise in extrajudicial killings.
