Inua Jamii funds

The Kenya Kwanza government committed to increasing the Inua Jamii funds (the social protection cash transfer for the vulnerable) from KSh 3.52 billion to KSh 15 billion over three years, as well as increasing the number of beneficiaries of the program. The disbursement will be done on a monthly basis.

  • On 5th February, 2025, the government officially transitioned Inua Jamii Programme payments to mobile money platforms, a move aimed at curbing fraud and increasing accessibility for beneficiaries.
  • On 15th July 2025, the government is integrating the Inua Jamii cash transfer programme database with civil registration records to eliminate ghost beneficiaries.
  • As at 2026, the government has rolled out the fund with access to 1.1 million beneficiaries, according to the government delivery unit scorecard. Notably, the 2.5 million beneficiaries target has not yet been achieved, among other systemic issues with the programme’s rollout.
