Enhancing rehabilitation and reintegration aspects of the prison system
The Kenya Kwanza Government promised to enhance the rehabilitation and reintegration aspects of the prisons system by providing greater psycho-social support and educational and technical training opportunities.
The Kenya Kwanza Government has, through the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Interior, reiterated its promise to enhance the rehabilitation and integration of offenders through, among other things, construction of modern prisons as part of the state’s ongoing reforms.
In addition, the state has formulated the Public Finance Management (Prisons Enterprise Fund) Regulations, 2025 whose purpose is to establish the Prisons Enterprise Fund to support the development and operations of prison enterprises and provide funds for implementation of training and rehabilitation programs for prisoners.
Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) has been rolled out across several institutions to equip inmates with market-relevant skills such as carpentry, masonry, and tailoring.
