Implementation of the Legal Aid Act

The Kenya Kwanza Government promised to ensure equal protection for all under the law by implementing and funding the Legal Aid Act of 2016.

In November 2025, the government launched the first-ever nationwide legal aid service, deploying state-funded lawyers to every county.
The current service prioritizes vulnerable populations, including widows, children, survivors of gender-based violence (GBV), and individuals previously excluded due to the high cost of legal fees.
