Implementation of the Legal Aid Act

The Kenya Kwanza Government promised to ensure equal protection for all under the law by implementing and funding the Legal Aid Act of 2016.

•  In November 2025, the government launched the first-ever nationwide legal aid service, deploying state-funded lawyers to every county.
• The current service prioritizes vulnerable populations, including widows, children, survivors of gender-based violence (GBV), and individuals previously excluded due to the high cost of legal fees.
