Insurance cover for loss of life of officers

The Kenya Kwanza government vowed to provide insurance cover for loss of life for officers on duty (similar to that of the military).

The government provided a medical scheme for police and prison officers via private insurer Consortium (led by CIC) to provide comprehensive medical and dependents’ cover for officers.
In January 2026, the National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) grilled police bosses over Sh220 million in unpaid death benefits flagged by the Auditor-General.
By late January 2026, the National Police Service (NPS) reported that 96 claim cases worth Sh205 million had finally been settled
