Expansion of the National Youth Talent Academy

The Kenya Kwanza government promised to expand the National Youth Talent Academy (NYTA) to include all sports, and simultaneously devolve it to the county level and introduce County Sports Talent Academy with the capacity to systematically identify promising sporting talent and provide necessary support through sponsorship to further their skills/talent.

• In April 2025, the government allocated KSh 1.7 billion to build 37 new sports academies across the country in a bid to nurture talent from the grassroots level. This promise is still being actualized.
• President Ruto has transitioned the focus to establishing academies in every constituency. As of January 2026, the government is constructing 77 sports academies nationwide.
• The Sports Bill 2026  was presented in February to provide the legal framework for these reforms, aiming to turn sports from a recreational activity into a structured industry.
