Attracting international sporting events.

The Kenya Kwanza Government promised to establish and resource adequately a dedicated function within the tourism promotion function to attract international sporting events.

  • In 2023, the State Department for Sports under the Ministry of  Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports committed to collaborate with sports organizations to bid for hosting international sports events in Kenya as part of its strategic plan for the years 2023 through 2027.
  • Since 2022, Kenya has hosted a number of international sporting events including but not limited to the 2022-2025 editions of the WRC Safari Rally and the Kip Keino Classic, the 2024 edition of the CAF Africa Nations Championship and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub Regional Qualifier B from 19th -24th October 2024. Kenya is also set to co-host the 2027 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations.
  • Kenya has also submitted a bid to host the 2029 or 2031 World Athletics Championships and pitched to extend its contract with the WRC for continued hosting of the Safari Rally in Kenya past 2026.
