Increased Funding for the Anti-FGM Board and Full Implementation of Anti-FGM law
The Kenya Kwanza Government promised to increase funding for the Anti-Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) Board and fully implement the anti-FGM law.
In April 2025, the government initiated the Prohibition of FGM (Amendment) Bill, 2025 to close gaps in the 2011 Act, introducing clearer definitions of offenses and harsher penalties. Additionally, the government allocated KES 110 million towards the eradication of FGM in Kenya in the 2025/26 financial year budget.
The Anti-FGM Prosecution Unit under the ODPP has been strengthened to fast-track cases, leading to increased reports and arrests in high-prevalence counties.
