Increased Funding for the Anti-FGM Board and Full Implementation of Anti-FGM law
The Kenya Kwanza Government promised to increase funding for the Anti-Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) Board and fully implement the anti-FGM law.
There has been a steady increase in the funding allocated to the Anti-Female Genital Mutilation board, which received a budgetary allocation of Kenya Shillings Two Hundred and Forty-Five Million (KES. 245,000,000) in 2023/2024, up from Kenya Shillings One Hundred and Two Million (KES. 102,000,000) in 2022/2023.
In April 2025, the government initiated the Prohibition of FGM (Amendment) Bill, 2025 to close gaps in the 2011 Act, introducing clearer definitions of offenses and harsher penalties.
The Anti-FGM Prosecution Unit under the ODPP has been strengthened to fast-track cases, leading to increased reports and arrests in high-prevalence counties.
